I never did understand Organic
Once it "clicks" it becomes pretty simple. That happened very early in Organic II for me. I thought it was fairly simple and thought of it almost like a puzzle-solving class.

OP- tell your son to seriously check out Khan Academy. It has great videos on all subjects including organic chemistry. It's free.
Also, he can check out a website called Course Saver. You have to pay a bit (maybe like $20-$50, can't remember) but the tutor's videos are great. People use it to study for the MCAT.
Khan Academy (free) and Course Saver (not free but worth it) are two great online resources.

Organic I and II and analytical chem were my 3 hardest/worst/most hated undergrad courses.
ETA - my favorite class was wine tasting. I took it every time it was offered. Hell, I had my first date with my eventual wife when I was shite faced after champaign night.

Rouge, I would be embarrassed to be a stalker that has posted over 96,000 messages on a message board over 10 years insulting well intentioned parents ttying to help their kids achieve at a high level in a very competitive field. That is an average of over 26 per day! Get a life!

Rouge, keep it up cause you need 25 more posts tonite to keep up your average. I kind of have a picture in my mind of Steve Carrell in 40 year old virgin.

I took that on a dare as an elective at LSU. Didn't know what I was getting into. Made a C. Only blemish on my transcript.

I you know a programming language, organic is practically the same thing.
It's just knowing what to call the things you see, and how to call it is with a simple set of rules.

This is something only a psychopath would say
At least he didn't say 'p-chem'.
Had nightmares from both of those.

I hated Quantitative Chemistry...but because it wasn't as interesting, I didn't put in as much time as I did with Organic.
