Not much in the story yet, I tried the News Star too. 5 year old accidentally shot at 1:20 in the morning in West Monroe.

1.20 am Friday? hmm...
Late Thursday night really, not much info
Gotta believe booze was a big factor
Not buying the "accidental" angle...

kids in West Monroe playing with guns at 0120 is pretty believable

I don’t know these people because I’ve never met my brother-in-law’s family, but this is his brother’s (who is not the best model father) kid’s (who is 23) son. My wife’s sister called and said they think he just found the gun and shot himself, but aren’t sure. They are driving to Monroe now.

My kids will be staying the weekend at my parents house and I think about this constantly..The best thing I can do is stress to them that if they find something, its not a toy and the responsible thing to do is leave it and let someone know..

I know these types of accidents can happen to any parents, but how hard is it to put a gun in a place where a kid can’t find it?
I’m very curious to hear what my sister-in-law says after they get there. I want to know what a 5-year old was doing up at that time?!?!

I'm all for guns, but we do that shite responsibly..My oldest knows where they are and how to get them..My younger two would have to be on ladders to get to the locked box..
My parents on the other hand feel "as their rights" are the ones you read about...When they come down to visit, I meet them at their vehicle and either the guns stay in the car the whole time or they get put up in my house for the visit...Every time I hear about someone getting accidentally shot from a purse gun, I look for my moms name
ETA: odds are they know your family
