One of the saddest things I have ever seen: Deputy Donald Sahota shooting

I like to watch the police chase and confrontation videos on youtube. Was watching a video about a police shooting in a WalMart in CA and a suggested video showed up. I searched TD and didnt see anything on it so here it is

off duty sheriff deputy at home has armed robbery fugitive knock on his door - his wife calls 911
deputy realizes dude is up to no good, tries to detain him in his driveway and gets stabbed three times
Deputy fights the guy off but then the other LEO show up, scene is confusing
the fugitive runs into Sahota's house, Sahota's wife is in the house
Sahota chases suspect onto front porch and LEO on scene now thinks Sahota is the suspect
LEO armed with a .223 tells Sahota to stop, Sahota doesn't stop and LEO shoots him three times - fatal shooting
Fugitive surrenders without further incident
Deputy Sellers who shot Deputy Sahota is devastated when he realizes what has happened
whole thing is captured by a drone overhead

An off-duty police officer who was stabbed outside his home by a robbery suspect fleeing officers was then shot by a sheriff's deputy and died Saturday night, Washington state authorities said.
Donald Sahota, 52, had been with the Vancouver Police Department since April 2014, according to the city of Vancouver. He was shot as deputies pursued a suspect after a report of an armed robbery at a convenience store, the Clark County Sheriff's Office said in a statement.
An independent team investigating the incident said that within seconds of arriving at Sahota’s home, the unnamed Clark County sheriff’s deputy “fired several rounds from a rifle striking the off-duty officer.”
“The off-duty officer/homeowner collapsed on his front porch before responding officers were able to determine he was the homeowner and not the alleged robbery suspect,” the Lower Columbia Major Crimes Team said.

To be fair, if it had been the robber and he had withheld fire and the robber ended up killing the deputy or the wife, he still would have been screwed.

convenience store robber in a stolen car ended up ditching the car in a neighborhood and wandering around on foot
LEO set up a wide perimeter to find him, the drone was launched to try to locate him, a LEO QRT was situated to the north of Sahota's house searching for the fugitive
what made this so sad, was Sahota was trying to get into his house to protect his wife after he himself had been stabbed three times
the fugitive still had the knife he had used to stab Sahota, no way Sahota was going to stop from going into the house after the fugitive, when the LEOs on scene told him to stop
BUT Sahota's wife had escaped the house from the garage door, when Sahota was shot on the porch. She saw the whole thing as was screaming at LEO that the man on the porch was her husband, not the man in the house.
