Some Nazis escaped but Hitler definitely shot himself. Even if he managed to somehow get out, he would not last long. He was in extremely poor health by this point and was suffering from a serious case of Parkinson’s. Still, he was insane by this point and he was determined to go down with the ship as the other most devoted Nazis did.

Well...we have the eyewitness testimony of everyone who was in the bunker at the time who survived the war. Of course you would most likely discount their claims as hiding the truth. Traudl Junge, Hitler's private secretary, came out as a virulent anti-Nazi after the war when the true extent of the party's crimes were brought to her attention. She heard the gunshot, she saw the blood stain in Hitler's private quarters. I suppose she was lying.

The story for that is the SS shot his body double in the bunker. Thats the one soviets found.
