People wanna blame guns but mass shootings were rare up until the past 20 or so years despite the same "assault weapons" and "high capacity" mags and dreaded AR15s being available.

I would counter-argue with Ollie that social media is the biggest cause... looking at all the fun and dates other kids are having, online bullying, and hate group sites pouring gasoline on it all.
How often did this stuff happen before the social media boom?

I have a co-worker from Gueydan. Kids there could have their shotguns in their trucks at school. This was in the early 90's. Pretty sure Gueydan High never had a school shooting during all those years kids were bringing guns into school.

London has a big murder problem so they outlawed knives. Forks and baseball bats are next. Eventually the government will have to come cut your food for you

Something like 25% or more of kids are now on ADHD medication. It's absurd
The medication program is designed to keep the kids in class from acting out. So teachers can have a calm class to teach. It's not there to help the problem. That's what I hate about it. It turns your kid into a zombie to keep the teacher happy.

Medication has nothing to do with it IMO. We as a society are doing a terrible job of raising kids.
link to CDC numbers
"Approximately 9.4% of children 2-17 years of age (6.1 million) had ever been diagnosed with ADHD, according to parent report in 2016"
"The percent of children 4-17 years of age ever diagnosed with ADHD had previously increased, from 7.8% in 2003 to 9.5% in 2007 and to 11.0% in 2011-12"
So the trend in ADHD seems to have dipped or at worst stayed level over ~5 years
"The number of young children (ages 2-5) who had ADHD at the time of the survey increased by more than 50% from the 2007-2008 survey to the 2011-12 survey"
So what is causing the spike in cases among such young kids? IMO it's shitty parents who do shitty parenting and then when times get rough they run to a doctor to get a Dx and some Rx rather than doing more and doing better in raising their kids.
"About 3 in 4 children ages 2-5 years with ADHD recorded in their health care claims from 2008-2014 received ADHD medication, and fewer than half received any form of psychological services"
Why are such young children on medication?
Another question to ask is how many shooters or violent criminals have a Dx of ADHD or other disorder? Seems to me that ADHD does cluster with other behavioral problems but I don't know of data showing they are more than just a pain in the arse to deal with.
Also, the number of those with Dx and receiving treatment is not that great, so you could make the argument that a lack of medication is the problem. I don't endorse that position, but someone could use that angle if they wanted to.

There weren’t school shootings when prayer was allowed in schools

People desensitized to the gun violence through tv, social media, etc and the killers are fricking glorified by having their mugshot and shite plastered on mainstream media outlets for extended lengths of time.

So increased media coverage? I don't ever really remember hearing about them before Columbine.
Here is a timeline of mass shooting from 1984 - 2017.
latimes
There were 10 mass shootings in the US from 1984 to the Columbine shooting in April of 1998.
There were 39 from right after Columbine until the Las Vegas shooting
So 10 in 14 years before Columbine and in 18 years after Columbine there has been 39 (which doesn't include the mass shootings that has happened since the Las Vegas shootings last year.
So before Columbine there was an average of 1.4 a year. After Columbine 2.6.
But 2012 is when things really started to change. 21 of the 39 that happened after Columbine has taken place between 2012-Sept 2017 54% in the past 5 years

Actually between 5% and 10% of children are diagnosed ADHD, and approx 50% are medicated for it. That would make the total % of children between 2.5% and 5%.
You only overshot by 20% or so...
I was diagnosed at 5 by LSU med. Brain scans, blood work, therapy, medication etc... As someone who has gone through it, I assure you, you are giving an ADHD child a much better life by PROPERLY medicating them. The hyperactive part of ADHD is due to extreme anxiety and the child's need to keep their brain stimulated 24/7. Medication gives them relief from that constant stress, helps them focus, and helps to control impulsive behavior.
I would argue that many of these kids shooting up schools are NOT getting the proper care for their mental illness, ADHD or not. Their parents likely just beat them for being a hyper child. It's ignorance at it's finest.

Adhd meds help control the anxiety, impulsive behavior, and depression spikes, that the imbalance known as ADHD causes.
It would make perfect sense that an anxious, impulsive, depressed child, would be much more inclined to do something like that without that medication.
