He'll end up pleading guilty once they have a deal in place.

I don't know. They'd probably need more than that for a slam dunk case.

Covered this on another page, but these are his lawyers, acting as co-counsel. It is a perfect legal team for him:
1. Swayze Alford
- Local Oxford guy
- Most connected criminal defense attorney in town
- Fixed DUIs and public intox. charges for tons of friends in college
- Knew some people whose parents actually kept him on retainer while their kids were at Ole Miss

- Personal friends with every judge, prosecutor, sheriff, etc. in town
2. Steve Farese and his son Tony Farese
- Memphis lawyers
- Nationally known, high powered criminal defense guys
- As clever as they come, will definitely try to get every bit of evidence thrown out and will be successful to some degree
- If I was ever arrested for something serious, they would be my first call

My bad, unaware of this...

That legal team will bring the heat no doubt.
They'll do what they can, but they most certainly face an uphill battle. To my knowledge, there were no witnesses the crime, which certainly helps the defendant; however, cell phone records and the surveillance video from the gas station puts the two together close to the crime scene.
Also, assuming the rumors are true and the defendant did have an eight-chamber pistol, the victim's belongings, and bloodstained clothes in his truck, then things just got that more difficult. Assuming the chain of custody isn't messy, none of that evidence should be too difficult to authenticate and introduce. Defense counsel will certainly argue everything to get it thrown out.
