I'm not coming at you for not knowing, I guess it's possible to not know, but seriously, how does someone not know about Emmett Till? Is it the school systems? (probably) Were you raised by penguins with no internet? Have you just emerged from your hermitage after years of waiting for the Japanese to announce victory?

Also, I would like to know the overlap here between "It's just a sign!" and "Statues are our history!"

I don't care enough to search post histories, but I'd be comfortable wagering a decent amount that the 3 or 4 "What's the big deal?" people were very active in the statue removal threads a couple years ago.

I have two college degrees from LSU.

I admittedly went to an all white private school commonly referred to as a "segregation academy" and most people didn't really have internet in their homes until I was maybe a Jr in college.

I suspect you are right. OTOH I also suspect a lot of people outraged at this have cheered the removal and vandalism of confederate monuments.

I get it. Penguins still would have been cooler.

This is something you'd learn in high school. Unless you're taking US history classes in college, which I'd imagine many people probably don't.

I have no sympathy for these kids. It’s fricking 2019. Putting this shite on Social media so your stupid flat bill turn row tycoon wannabe buddy can hit the like button is retarded as frick.

Thank god you still had to develop film at the store when I was 18.

fricking rich.

I thoroughly enjoy the typical snowflakes who are acting like they let shite like this roll off their back when it is about the flag, Trump, etc.

I’m guessing age is the biggest factor in who learned about Till. It was all about MLK and Rosa Parks when I was in school in the 80’s. I’m sure history books are much different now than back then.

Wasn't much different in the 90s. No Till on the history books from what I remember. It's such a violent ordeal that it's largely glossed over.

I’m not sure what good it does to learn about that TBH. It really doesn’t promote healing.

I wasn't really trying to get a rise out of anyone, just stating that I don't really remember learning about this in the 80s-90s.

My wife is from Alabama so we both grew up in neighboring states to Mississippi and she'd never heard of him either.

Now that I think about it I'm not sure that I learned about him in high school but I've always been into American history so I probably found the story on my own.

I wasn’t taught about Till either. It would be awkward af to learn about that with black classmates.

We learned about this story in my school, but it wasn't some big thing. Like it was mentioned as the event that (in part) led to the CR movement and that was it. But I still learned about it.

You should just shut it down.

You’ve embarrassed yourself thoroughly.
