Frank Levingston was 110 years old. He served in the US Army as part of the Allied invasion of Italy. He died in Shreveport on May 3. RIP to a member of the greatest generation.

quote:

He enlisted in the U.S. Army in October 1942, less than a year after Japan's attack on Pearl Harbor propelled the U.S. into World War II. There, he served as a private during the Allied Invasion of Italy which lasted from September 1943 to January 1944.

quote:

Following his service, he became a union worker specializing in cement finishing.

quote:

On his 110th birthday, he received a letter from the White House thanking him for his service. Last year, he laid a wreath at the National World War II Memorial to commemorate the 74th anniversary of the Pearl Harbor attack.

Siap, searched and found nothing.

Dude saw it all. Sucks big time that those men are few and far between nowadays. People around my age could learn so much about how to live life from those guys.

WWII? That can't be right. WWI you mean?

The reason I ask is because my grandfather would only be 92 if he were still alive today

Edit: I suck at reading comprehension

He's the oldest remaining WWII vet, not the last one.

I won't lie, I had to do a double take as well. Didn't think there was any possible way the last remaining American WWII vet had passed.

Man, my grandpa fought in WWII and he shared so many stories while he was here. Even as a kid I knew how special it was to have someone share those stories, Mr Levingston was a true hero.

Think of how much technology has changed in his existence. Really crazy time to be alive. He was 39 when the war ended. Crazy.

Hell, there wasn't even that much technology around when he was born. No TV, no computer, not that many people had cars at that time, etc.

It breaks my heart that the greatest generation is rapidly dying out.
