Just further proof that 99.9% of music being made today is pure dog shite...

Despite the massive success of Adele's album 25, which sold a whopping 7.4 million copies in only six weeks, 2015 marked the first time in U.S. history that new releases were outsold by catalogue albums. Seems like everyone's been feeling extra nostalgic lately.
The term "catalogue" refers to albums released more than 18 months ago. According to Nielsen's annual year end music report, catalogue albums outsold current releases by 4.3 million copies, something never before seen in the industry. Just 10 years ago, current music sales outpaced catalogue music by over 150 million albums. Keep in mind that these stats don't include album streams, but regardless, it's a significant turning point.

That's because old people buy music, young ones steal it.

The resurgence in vinyl has a lot to do with this.

There are 80 million baby boomers with money to burn.
That has a lot to do with it.

Got to agree here. With the amount and variety of music that we all have access to now days, if you can't find something new that you like it's because you don't want to. But people do love to complain.

Millennials overtake Baby Boomers as America’s largest generation

A big part of that is the millenial generation doesn't buy their music.
Add in that new stuff is EDM-infused dogshit, it's not worth buying.
Wheeler Walker jr. is worth buying, just about anything from Dave Cobb's studio is worth the cash.

if you count royalties I'd bet it's always been that way, Pete Best and another drummer that briefly sat in for Ringo in the early days of the Beatles still get a pretty hefty annual income from Beatles royalties
