Those were very common installed in bathrooms back in the real old days

Yeah. I had one in the bathroom of a house I rented during college. I liked it a lot.

I used to sit in front of the one in Maw Maw’s hall until my face got so hot I couldn’t take it anymore.

Had one of those in my house I grew up in

I have 2 of those in a recently remodeled kitchen. We had to cap them off to get a permit to move a gas line. My plumber said it was ok to still use the ones in my bathrooms.

Depends on the height it’s installed at IIRC. If it’s 1-2ft off the floor (toddler/child reach) it can be a concern.

Someone posted a picture of a portable one, I must have one now.

We had those when I was a kid. You only touched a gas heater once

Have one in my bathroom. That thing puts out some heat. Even warms the toilet seat which is nice on a cold day.

Those don’t contain any of the safety features of modern heaters like oxygen depletion sensors, thermocouples in case the pilot light goes out, etc. your gas company may not light it, but I don’t know of any law that prevents you from having it in your house. Those heaters are indestructible and will heat half of your house in a pinch however, modern heaters are are much safer and far more economical to operate.

That’s all we had during ice storms as kids and it was never cold in that house

had a historic house a few years back..had those in bathrooms...had two fireplaces..one wood and the other a fake fireplace with a very cool parlor radiant heater...same concept as those but very artistic...
when i sold the house the inspector was an idiot and i had to get fire marshal to visit and explain to him what they were

Those things didn’t have pilots. You had to either throw a match at it Or get close to it and move quick when it lit.

I don't have it hooked up but this baby will crank out some heat.

True.
Is not having a pilot light a violation?
