For there to be land work, there needs to be drilling. Look elsewhere.

Lots of folks from the Mississippi Gulf Coast post here.

Why single them out?

Everyone is getting laid off. No drilling = no work.

Do you have a law background? If not, good luck in this low price environment full of layoffs. Very few companies are buying up lease acreage right now, rigs are being stacked, etc.

I did it for 10 years, starting before the Haynesville Boom. I got out right before the main crash. Most of my friends that were also Landmen have moved on to other jobs also.

During the boom it was the best job I'll ever have. I made many people millionaires while making damn good money myself.

I'll just say you might want to hold off on the lifted F250 for a while.

That too. Companies are letting non-core/sweet spot leases go instead of spending money to drill a lease hold.

My cousin moved from North La to Lafayette a couple years ago and was doing very well.

She got laid off 3 weeks ago.

3 horizontals drilled within 3 miles in all directions. One under performed and 2 met expectations but I guess when time and money is tight they only want areas that perform above expectations

I doubt we ever see the need for the industry to employ the vast numbers of landmen like the last 10 years. The unconventional boom is consolidating and most of the established plays are leased up. Land jobs will be more the in house guys and the established veterans working for small deals for independents drilling conventional wells. Neither of these will probably need to make any hires to find people. Engineers and geologists are even being laid off this downturn unlike most of 2008/2009.

when did this become the gold standard for oilfield stereotypes? I've been working in the industry since '06, in Broussard- pretty much the heart of the field. I guarantee you you will see more "lifted F250s" in EBR/ASC/LP/WBR/Ibberville than I see in the greater Laffy regional area.

The TMS is as good as dead with oil sub $75-80. Goodrich will sink with the ship.

this is a bad time to get into it. i've been doing title for four years and it's great when there's work. pay is good, jobs are relaxed and flexible. it helps that i'm suited for this type of work and actually find some of it interesting, plus i'm good at it.

the biggest downsides to me are being away for long stretches without being anywhere long enough to really settle in, and things being slow like they are now, so tons of people are looking for the few available positions. if you're going to do it make sure you keep some money aside so you can be okay going without work for some months eventually.

Not technically, but I do environmental consulting so I would say yes. I deal with the EPA and regulations on a daily basis.

Same here, except I'm an Environmental Specialist for an operator with 10 years upstream o&g experience. Dealing with regs and regulatory agencies (state or fed) on a daily basis =/= legal background.

That background won't even get us to sniff an open Landman position, especially now when there's so many unemployed experienced Landmen out there.

I'd look at something else.

I'm lucky we leased ours out when it was high and it runs for 8 more years with a contingency calling for a one and a half times payment if they don't drill yearly after the first 3 years
