I really thought StG would take the momentum from the last day of 2019 into 2020.

But St. George has a lot of heady players. Motors never quit. Deceptively fast.

So this actually happened almost 48 hours ago. It was reported just over an hour ago from wbrz. I do not receive updates from anyone else...but funny that they are starting to delay-report on murders or they simply do not report at all. I do not know what to make of it.

The math is easy. BR is going to average 7 to 14 homicides a month on average...summer months spiking obviously. If Baton Rouge can stay below 80 homicides for 2020, it will be a huge win. Sad. But true.

This is the murder from the other thread. The BRPD and EBR coroner's office found the body covered in blood and said it was a drug overdose. They classified it as an accidental death (or however they classify an overdose) and definitely not a homicide. The funeral home got the body and when they started working on it the next day, they started wondering "hey, what's this fatal gunshot wound to the chest doing in this overdose corpse?" and the coroner and BRPD had to trot back over to the funeral home to recover the body. When they finally performed an autopsy, they too noticed the bullet hole in the corpse and were forced to reclassify the manner of death as a homicide a couple of days after the guy actually was murdered. They're not sure exactly when the dude actually suffered his lead overdose because that whole "thought it was a drug overdose and processed the case differently" thing introduced some uncertainty in determining time of death. They know he was alive late on the 31st because his sister texted back and forth with him. By the time the homicide detectives realized that maybe they don't know what homicide looks like and went back to process the scene and collect evidence, the place had already been cleaned up, everything moved around, etc.
In short, a lot of evidence was destroyed by the time they tried to process the scene as a homicide and any good defense attorney is going to be able to shite all over any "evidence" collected at that stage of the fiasco.
Pesky funeral home. Also, LOLBR.

Not a 187, but there has been more of these in BR in a week than I have seen in a year? Surely Ottawa is not SG, despite EBRSO in the midst.
Deputies trying to reach barricaded suspect on Ottawa Drive; third standoff in a week
By WBRZ Staff
BATON ROUGE - Law enforcement is locked in a standoff with a suspect who's reportedly barricaded himself inside a house Monday.
The incident was first reported before 3 p.m. on Ottawa Drive. The East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office would not release many details but said the situation was related to a domestic violence call.
Monday marks the third standoff involving Baton Rouge-area law enforcement since Dec. 30. Last week, BRPD was called to two similar situations on back-to-back days.

EBRSO is onsite because that area is not in BR or StG city limits. It is still unincorporated part of EBR.
