Article doesn't really explain what killer was breaking in and reads more like police stopping a burglary in process that escalated into a shooting even though also saying Hord was a former police officer.
Was Hord at his home or working security elsewhere?
You are merging 2 different stories.
1st story, TPOS #1 shoots and kills a family friend. TPOS #1 later that morning shot 2 officers, killing 1 so far. Hopefully the 2nd can and will make a full recovery. TPOS #1 was not harmed.
2nd story from late last night, TPOS #2 is in a former officer's back yard. Former officer confronts TPOS #2 and both are shot, but the good guy dies again, only wounding TPOS #2.

TPOS #1 and #2 should be forced to fight to the death using rusted butter knifes. The winner will then be promptly disposed of via double tap to the face.

Why were the officers going over there to talk to him about..what were they investigating?
The first murder that he committed earlier in the morning. I think it was a listed "known address" for him.
SRT should have been handling this from the get go

Thanks for additional info. I didn't really merge 2 stories. I know they were separate & was responding to a post linking to 2nd. I just labeled TPOS #2 a killer for the killing of Hord not saying he was already a wanted killer when confronted by the Hord. The article in link just didn't make it clear that if it was Hord's home/property or even a home. Don't know area anymore or how some of the businesses are addressed closer to North or Govt.

DA plans to seek Death Penatly
ATON ROUGE – Prosecutors say they will seek the death penalty against a man accused of killing a police officer and gravely wounding another in a shooting Sunday afternoon.
Police say the gunman responsible also killed at least one other person earlier that day during a domestic dispute.
The two officers were shot after responding to reports of gunfire and encountering the gunman on Conrad Drive, near the corner of Winbourne Avenue and N. Foster. The officers were shot around 12:30 Sunday afternoon.
According to official police documents 36-year-old Ronnie Kato, a man with a history of making threats against the police, has been identified as the shooter.
An affidavit report says after fatally shooting one of the officers, Kato stood over the deceased officer's body and continued to shoot him multiple times with an assault-style rifle.
Authorities say Kato's actions corresponded with earlier threats he'd made against officers of the law.
According to official documents, in 2017, Kato's girlfriend told authorities he'd threatened to "Gavin Long" any police officers who she called, a reference the man who shot and killed three officers in an ambush on Airline Highway in July 2016.

If you think SRT responds to every shooting in NBR, I got some bad news for you

no... he was wondering why SRT wouldn't join other police in going to "talk" to a potential murder suspect
which could be a legit question... esp. if they knew of the threats the suspect made to his gf about what would happen if she called police (ETA: which I would assume they did)
my guess... they didn't exactly have a search warrant yet and since they weren't planning entry into the house SRT's force wasn't necessary at that moment
