I don't understand why people don't obey lawful orders. Stay alive. Even if you deem the orders to be unlawful or "unconstitutional" then obey at the time and then bring suit.
People do win in court for unlawful stops and unlawful detainments. I understand being upset with the situation but be smart about it.

I've never argued that the officer wasn't legally justified.

Just that it is absolutely ludicrous that he is technically legally justified. Because the officer was absolutely in the wrong.

Morally, logically, and rightfully there was no justifiable reason for Philando Castile to lose his life that day.

The one juror who gave an on camera interview said the LEO dashcam shows more than the Facebook live feed and the hook was that they all believed (2 had to be convinced) the LEO saw AT LEAST part of the handgun in the victim's lap.

Time and place for everything. Over 99% of the time, encounters with even a testy LEO can be easily defused by a calm demeanor and strict compliance. They are in the position of authority/capable of inflicting fatal injury, as a matter of course.

Got to pick your battles. If the officer is in the wrong (They aren't infallible, obviously), the time to raise that point and fight them is in the courtroom. NOT on the side of the road in your car when they have to be on high alert to begin with (again, as a matter of course).

Problem is, the above is really just common sense. But somehow if you say that now, you're just a "comply or die" a-hole. No. Just be smart. And I'm not even saying that that's a panacea. Bad shoots happen. Bad cops happen. And they should be taken to task when the situation arises. But the overwhelmingly vast majority if the time, my first paragraph will keep any sort of escalation from occurring.

A smart person does not continuously shoot at an unarmed man who posed zero threat and whose arms are in the air.

Damn. And in these videos there always seems to be at least one LEO on the scene who thinks it is okay to start screaming "F**K! And KILL YOU!" Etc. What part of the training do they teach you to scream obscenities at people under questioning?

Is it a fact Philando had a gun on him?

Yes. In the OP link there is another video at the bottom of the page of the one juror who gave an interview. And the juror said that weighed heavily into the verdict. #1 there was a lot more on the dashcam video that shows the whole story, beyond the Facebook live feed. And #2 they were all convinced (2 took a little longer to admit) the officer was AT LEAST able to see part of the handgun in the victim's lap.

ETA: This is what I don't understand. ALL LEOs should demand full audio/video of EVERY interaction from the very initial start of receiving the call and/or spotting someone they want to question until the parting of ways with the one in question. It seems like a no brainer! However, BowlJackson posted some very alarming links as to the "types" of candidates they covet.

Kinda ironic seeing as both were minorities with some Caucasian in their DNA.

Well they don't teach you that. Imagine yourself in a situation where your gun is drawn on someone. Your fight and flight kicks in and you're amped to the max. Some people swear, some say dumb shite, some choke up

I'm more then sure in any conceal and carry class they teach you to notify law enforcement of the the gun and keep your hands away from the object. It's simple to follow but hard for people to understand.

In 1997 I transported a service handgun from California to D.C. passing through LA. to spend time with family before getting to D.C. No one at the USAF academy in California knew the rules for transporting a firearm across state lines. I called the FBI, the state police in every state I would be traveling through and none of them knew "100% for certain". The most helpful person was an officer at the Louisiana State Police who told me to keep the handgun unloaded in the trunk and the clips and ammo in the glovebox. And at any time if I was pulled over to put my hands on the steering wheel at 10&2 and tell the approaching officer(s) what I had and where they were located and he assured me I would have no problems. I followed his directions, however I was never pulled over. When I got to D.C. I immediately took the handgun to the armory.

Maybe they, don't speak English, are deaf, mentally ill, or having a reaction to insulin or other prescription drug. Police have shot individuals for " not obeying orders " in each of these situations.

Correct. Those situations suck. See Graham v Connor. But those situations don't always occur and can't dictate how officers handle themselves in life or death situations.

Castille on the other hand, from everything we know for fact did everything right. He could not have possibly done anything different to prevent getting shot and dying after that traffic stop was initiated.

This is what the juror who gave the interview said. The Facebook live feed misrepresents the full story. Which the jury got to see from beginning to end via the LEO's dashcam with audio (actually freaking turned on!) which is what saved the LEO's arse from going to prison.

the public will be best served if Officer Yanez is no longer a police officer in our city.

Hell, Yanez is as equally best served. Seeing as the victim's mother said she hoped he (Yanez) died that night after the verdict! Someone nut job (like the D.C. shooter will take that literally to mean he/she has the legal/moral/ethical right to hunt down Yanez and harm his life!

Uh, yes he is. There are 3 races on the planet. Black, White and Yellow. All others are mixtures and subcategories.

Sheesh! This is part of the problem. There ARE white (Caucasian) minorities.

Hopefully it's your family thay the government is murdering next, since some people are so blind that they believe no cops or public servants can do any wrong

It's like the "keep quiet" narrative that is absolutely a possibility under authoritarian regimes.

"At first they came for them. They are not like me so I kept quiet". "Then they came for the others. Yet they are also not like me so I kept quiet". "Then they came for me. And no one was around to help, or those who were offered no help. And they've taken me away".

Actually its quite effective. Shut down trade and commerce. Cause discomfort to businesses who financially support the politicians who can change laws. Protesting and lobbying is as American as Apple pie.
