What were the warrants for?

Hate to say it but crime has gotten bad in Tuscaloosa. Violent crime especially. Walt Maddox needs to do something other than curfews.

When did it become so bad? I went to the LSU games in 07,09 and 11 and never once felt unsafe walking around downtown/the strip.

Paul, I’ve noticed a pretty significant uptick starting two years ago. They’ve had a ton of shootings and murders this year.

A shite way to go regardless, but I’m just curious if it was something non violent related and the officer went alone?
ETA:
Sounds like he was alone. Tough situation.

The POS thug that shot him is 20 years old and already has a rap sheet. frick him.
Here is a photo of the police investigator issuing the warrant this evening:
quote:
Tuscaloosa Mayor Walt Maddox announced Monday evening that 40-year-old Dornell Cousette died in the line of duty. Cousette is a 13+ year veteran of the Tuscaloosa Police Department. The incident began after 6 p.m. Monday. Assistant Police Chief Mitt Tubbs says Officer Cousette received information about a wanted suspect located in the 1700 block of 33rd Avenue in Tuscaloosa around 6:23 p.m. Monday. When Officer Cousette responded to the location, he saw the suspect - who has not yet been identified - on the front porch of the residence. Tubbs says the suspect then fled into the house and Cousette followed him. Once inside the house, gunshots were exchanged. Police say the suspect was also wounded in the exchange of gunfire.

TPD has gotten pretty lackadaisical in recent years. They can take some of our Gestapo cops here in Northport.

I hope they fry the son of a bitch that did this

Damn I hate to hear that and praying for his family. I never thought crime would pick up in Tuscaloosa.

I’m a huge police supporter, but this isn’t the best procedure for service of warrants.
quote:
Cousette was serving warrants against a wanted suspect at a home on 33rd Avenue at 6:23 p.m. The man was on the front porch when Cousette arrived, but ran inside, said Tuscaloosa Police Chief Mitt
Cousette followed the man into the home, where they exchanged gunfire.

Is Tuscaloosa a liberal city/county? If so, there’s your answer.
Conservative areas don’t neuter their police force.

quote:I was once in a BRPD building that has a wall dedicated to officers killed in the line of duty.
Eleven officers have died in the line of duty since 1912. Officer John Thomas was shot and killed while responding to a domestic dispute in 1972. Officer Trevor Phillips was killed in a crash as he escorted a funeral procession in 2011.
One was the chief of police, who was killed around 1912 serving a warrant. BR was a much smaller place then, but still rather odd the chief was serving a warrant.
Another was from around 1927, and just like in the movies he was planning to retire the next day when he was killed.

This doesn't sound like a neutered police force as much as a spontaneous ambush.

This occurred in the West side of Tuscaloosa. Which, from what I gather, is very similar to Baton Rouge's North side of town.

I’m referring more to the rise in crime in Tuscaloosa.
