A law enforcement officer was fatally shot Friday night near a high school basketball game in New Orleans.

Edwin Shorty, 2nd City Court constable, said the victim was a deputy in his office. He withheld the person's name until relatives could be notified.

quote:

“An individual attempted to enter the game and had an altercation with one of the staff members,” said NOPD Superintendent Shaun Ferguson, who could not divulge the identity of the slain Tulane police officer and reserve Constable officer with the Second City Court in Algiers. “The officer heard the disturbance and attempted to intervene. “As a result of intervening and attempting to escort this individual out of the school, this individual pulled his weapon out and fired a shot that struck the officer in his chest.”

Living and working in New Orleans is like working at an explosives factory. Explosives, despite an understandable fear about them, are man-made tools. Modern explosives, particularly, you can jostle them, burn them, shoot them with a gun in most circumstances and they're not going to blow up.

As long as you exercise a little bit of care, you can work around them quite safely. So, if that's your job - work making them/storing them - it is natural to develop a sense of complacency. "Hey, as long as we keep these things stored correctly, handle them properly, we're not going to have any problems."

Until you do.

New Orleans is just like that.

At some point law enforcement will simply give up on multiple large cities across the USA. It’s not if, it’s when.

The killer was pissed off because the Officer told him he had to wear a mask if he wanted to inside to watch the game. I mean how retarded is this world getting where you take someone's life because they asked you to wear a fricking mask.

Perp being escorted out after starting confrontation with ticketing because he didn't want to wear mask.

Asked to pray over the officer after he did it.

Pathetic

Don't the police usually bring this punishment down if they have the chance?

You know... If there was only a way that maybe we could get some professional athletes to draw attention to the problem that we have of violent youth and the risks that our law enforcement officers have to face daily on our behalf. And draw attention to the senseless killing going on in this country daily

IF there was only a way. Or a celebrity that would step up.

RIP Officer.
