You can be overweight and healthy. Probably for a pretty long time. She is not overweight though, she is obese. Her heart, joints, adipose and muscle cells whose receptors bind to insulin and regulate glucose uptake, her arteries, the valves in her veins that will soon be incompetent...are all being exposed to unhealthy stimuli which will cause a plethora of diseases in a short period of time. She may not have end stage OA, DM II, arterial disease, venous insufficiency, neuropathy, etc. but she will, soon, and at a rate nearly ten times faster than people who aren't obese (smokers excluded).
