Wall Street Journal

He bought his "son" his first pair of truck nuts

quote:

When President Barack Obama first took office in 2009, he was expected to be an adversary of oil and gas companies, seen as polluters of the environment. He hasn’t been.

Last week, Mr. Obama gave the oil and gas industry its biggest priority of the past two years: lifting the 40-year-old ban on oil exports, which he signed into law as part of broader spending and tax legislation.

The White House helped negotiate lifting the ban with Congress in exchange for temporary renewal of tax credits for wind and solar industries–energy industries that provide electricity and don’t directly compete with the oil industry, which provides transportation fuel.
For much of Mr. Obama’s seven years in the White House, the economy has been the beneficiary of an unprecedented oil and natural gas boom, helping drive Mr. Obama’s near-friendly handling of the industry’s operations.

Export will dwarf Keystone. and La. will really reap the benefits of export.

And suspension of issuing drilling permits in the gulf after the BP spill.

Yep, a pretty key omission for an article that was otherwise somewhat fair.

Also, a likely big reason FERC has expedited the permitting process for LNG exports is to loosen Putin's grip on Europe. So this is a pretty dynamic issue.

How does Obama get credit for lifting the ban?

Does nobody think that temporary suspension was warranted given the circumstances?

He's trying to sell off the strategic oil reserve to get some money. He essentially bought high and sold low. That's a losing combination where I come from.

What good does lifting the ban on exports if the global market is already flooded?

I am not sure why people assume just because a president is from a certain party he will rule (as much as a US president can.. Because of congress and all) strictly on his party's platform. Bush did shite that went against the Republican platform..

A president's party can be used to create fear that drives up sales in certain industries. Kind of like how gun sells go through the roof anytime a democrat president gets elected. The fear that a democrat president will ban gun sales starts spreading..

Remember when Obama shut down drilling in the Gulf? That was great for the oil industry here, wasn't it?

With friends like Obama who needs enemies?

Can't make it sound so simple.

With his policies decreasing the size of our military and Russia and China building theirs, OPEC (Saudia Arabia) is scared that we can't/won't defend them in the event of an attack. Add Putin invading the Ukraine and it made the Saudis very nervous.

OPEC is doing exactly what Reagan did. Using the price of oil to cripple the economies of Russia and China in an effort to slow down those two powers from coming to take over.

People are scared our military is impotent now because of the cuts from the republican led sequester?
