I guess Missy what the OT is trying to Say is Your daughter is probably sneaking around and doing well you know what and it all starts with that phone you never check! You need to use the sneak attack method to get the phone . Say hey can i borrow your phone real quick need to check the weather.99% sure she has a passcode on it. If she knows your intentions of getting the phone all evidence will be deleted. God only knows the nasty stuff you may find when you get it. Good luck!

My parents had no idea. Just thought I was a good kid.
I should clarify that they did eventually find out. My cousin and I would chat on the phone and write letters to one another. I had told her on the phone I was no longer a virgin and her dumb arse has to mention it in a letter she wrote me...that my mom read(my mom went through my mail on occasion).
So I had to awkwardly explain to my parents at 16 years old how I was still being a responsible teen because I was using 3 forms of birth control and would never want to destroy a chance at college by getting knocked up. I think they grounded me for a short time. But with my bf living just a couple houses down the street...still easy to sneak and see him.
ETA: So OP...check her phone and her mail. Go for the diary in her room as well. You are her mother.

Aren't you about my age? I didn't have a cell phone until my 20s I think.

It's my phone until they are out on their own supporting themselves.

Yep. I didn't have a cell phone until 2001 after college...when I was 23. I did have a pager in college.
ETA: If you were born in 1978..we are exact same age 3/24/78 here

I would do what you told her you would and make her hand it over to go through it. Don't give her time to go through it, but I would have been furious if I found out my mom went through my phone while I was asleep. Granted, I was a goody goody, so the only thing my parents would have found is how painfully bad I was at talking to girls

you check their phones regularly knucklehead, until they have proven that they’re not gonna have crap on there. Especially in the early teen years.

My son just turned 17. He doesn’t own a phone. He uses a phone that I own and allow him to use. And he does so with the knowledge that as the owner of that phone, I can and will inspect it at anytime I want.

So all his salacious business is carried out through Snapchat?

How’s it feel to be past your prime? I’m glad I’m not an older woman.

My wife’s cousin is in high school. Her mom got her a new phone for christmas one year to replace an old iPhone she had. But with the cloud she can see all her texts and pictures on the old phone still. Anytime they come over to our house her mom is constantly on that phone either reading her texts or tracking her every movement. She is constantly stressed out over stuff she reads. The girl is actually a good kid overall but her friends talk about sex a lot and it gets graphic.
I don’t think I need to know all that about mine.

Yes, because you old fricks in charge are afraid to stand up to the vocal minority and cave to their demands.

Don’t really care. I’m married, love my husband, and don’t look my age.

And you are a result of this as stated by your disrespectul post. Your parents must be proud. Its easy to stand on your high horse when your young and know it all. It's funny because Kids think they are pulling a fast one on their parents but they forget that most of their parents have tried that exact same thing when they were that age
