Started using this bad boy 5 years ago, and will never go back.
Mainly because you can find pheonmenal blades for about $0.04 each. I throw a new one in about every three days.
About every 2 years, I spend $20 on Amazon (plus free prime shipping) and have 150 sent to me
Why in the world would you continue to pay crack prices for sub-par blades?

Merkur classic.
Probably $30 on Amazon. When you factor in the blades, you probably spend less than a nickel a shave
Can't believe I used to pay $$$ for those Mach 18 razors, etc.

Damn you!!! Nice razor to boot.
I have some OLD blades that were my grandpa's and an old straight that was his. I am just not gonna shave with a straight, and the blade itself looks horrendous after decades in a cabinet. I don't know if it would be worth sending for a grind/hone.

Dollar Shave blades sucked for me too. Dorco blades are terrible for my face. some people like them.
Any of the razors mentioned in this thread are good. I will throw in Edwin Jagger. Old vintage razors are all over ebay. A gillette tech is a good starting point. All vintage gillettes, if not stored in and cleaned with bleach, will last your sons lifetime.
Don't spend more than $35-40 on anything if you are just starting out. Many companies have an all stainless steel model. Feather being the main one I can think of. They go for $200!? It can't possibly shave that much better than a vintage "Fat Handle" Tech. Those can be had on ebay for about ten to fifty bucks depending on condition. Fifty bucks being one that is mint condition despite being 70 years old.

Used to be fusion but dollar for dollar HARRYS, and can be purchased at retail outlets for fraction of the price without significant compromise in quality.

dry it real good after each use. Shaving isn't the thing that dulls it, its the rusting. Even stainless steel eventually rusts a little
