Recent events have pointed out that Americans are going to have to make a fundamental choice about the direction of this country.

1. We can live in a country of laws and expected social behavior. In that society, those who step outside the defined lines, as set by legislators elected by the people, are taken into custody and tried / punished by the justice system. The police are charged with taking those people into custody and when the offenders resist there are consequences in the form of force and an arse whipping.

2. Or we can live in a country where the individual is always first and the individual has the right to do whatever the frick they want regardless of how it impacts others and police / the government is discouraged from attempting to alter their behavior.

I am very, very much a pro freedom individualist who believes in personal responsibility. But I am also enough of a realist to know that my rights to freedom end when my actions start impacting others. That is society.

Option 3 is we go back to Old West rules where if you frick with me I shoot you dead and everyone walks around wary of everyone else.
