I was so happy when hogan came out thinking he was going to help macho man. Hogan looked around and leg dropped macho man a couple of times and my 8 year old self was devasted being I always went for hogan, macho man, and sting at that time.

It's insane the ratings WWE was doing in 99 despite lackluster wrestling and Russo on steroids. A match between the Mean Street Posse and Patterson and Briscoe did a damn 8.6 which is still the highest rated non-overrun match in cable wrestling history. To put that into perspective, the Goldberg/Hogan match on Nitro did a 6.9, which was the highest rated at the time.

I think this chart is wrong though. The highest rated Raw ever was 5/10/99 and it did an 8.1 so there's no way that peak in the summer of 99 was over a 9.

I was only 10 at the time but even a kid like myself was tired of Hogan's good guy act by then. I liked him when he first came over in 94 because of the Flair and Vader stuff but then came all the Dungeon of Doom crap (which culminated in the 8-on-2 triple cage match).

Watch the Monday Night Wars series on WWE network if you haven't seen it.

There's a few specials on there that's worth signing up for a month.

That show is incredibly biased though in favor of WWE. As if DX "invading" Nitro on a "tank" is what killed WCW.

The closes I ever came to liking Hogan was when he was NWO and even then I didn't really like him. I just thought didn't like the whole good guy act.

Best angle in the history of our sport (some Tony schiovanne hyperbole, but not really).
