What the African American slaves experienced comes no where close when comparing to the Jews.

So their connection to it is little more than my own.
ETA: Also, we are getting to the point that within a decade or so, the same could be said about the Civil Rights Era.

My previous boss was somewhat proud that his grandfather was a slave.
He was proud of how far his family had come in 140 years.
I should have told him to tone it down a bit.

Nothing wrong with that at ALL.
My problem comes from people who live (warning: over the top generalization follows) in Section 8 housing as a single mother with 6 kids who sells food stamps for petty cash, blaming the institution of slavery for her current situation.
We live in an era where if a black is inconvenienced in any way, it is clear evidence of institutional racism.
It is too rarely a product of chance, general rule, or the individual's choices. Nope, in those cases it is personal.
