I heard today it took them 150 years to build the Notre Dame Cathedral.

How long do you think it will take them to rebuild it?

The hard part is still standing. Looks like only the 2 levels of roofing burned. And we have better technology than they did in 1200. Even if they cut stones and beams by hand they don't have to haul them out of the quarries with horses.

The planning will take longer than the actual reconstruction imo.

Luckily the only part of that construction that was actually flammable was the roof. I fully expected to see the interior walls and columns coated black but thankfully the heat escaped out of the top. Worried about the crypts being flooded though.

I spent a couple months over there a few years ago and went to the cathedral several times. One of my professors is one of the top experts on stained glass windows. She's spent nearly every summer of her adult life studying the stained glass windows in the cathedrals there. She has quite a few books published on the subject. Would be cool if she was called upon for her expertise.

That’s a bit of a pre ejaculation wouldn’t you say?

According to all the posters here it’s just the roof that needs to be replaced.

The renovation (before the fire) was going to cost €150,000,000.

I watched a documentary a few years ago where they were using laser scanners to analyze the stone work to find areas of potential weakness in the structure before problems could get worse. The technology was created for a different cathedral that had the ceiling collapse but iirc they were using it on all the major structures so they should have plenty of information to rebuild it.

They were in the middle of a $6.5mm renovation as of yesterday

We build football stadiums in America that are costing over a $1b dollars.

You know these celebrities are only donating money for the notoriety. Like they personally commissioned the Cathedral.
