Also, while not exactly proof, it’s anecdotal evidence that white drug dealers also get investigated and arrested.

It will be interesting to see what happens to this case as it proceeds through the court system, and if he gets convicted, what sentence he receives relative to the average in that court for a poor and/or black defendant with similar circumstances.

Given the nature of criminal prosecution, this is undoubtedly true. Criminal defense is primarily occupied with the task of poking holes in a prosecutor’s case. That takes time and expertise, which costs money.

However, if the case is solid, expensive lawyers can be a waste of money. The best advice is often for a drug defendant to cooperate as soon as possible. That holds true for rich and poor alike.
