Back in the day, i remember everyone had the bathroom completely covered with something.
I remember the day I came home from school and saw mom had done this to our toilet. I thought it meant we were not rich.

I remember going over to my buddy's house in Huntsville when were were both like 9 or 10 years old. This would have been around 1979 - 1980. They lived on base at Redstone in Huntsville and had this new thing called "cable TV". My grandmother called it "commercial-free TV". This new "cable" thing also had the latest movies and like 10 or 20 channels (we on the other hand had a giant antenna that picked up 3 channels). The first thing I remember watching was this classic of American cinema....

I don't remember what my parents first called cable tv. I do remember we were one of the first and few that got it in my area. And it only had a handful of channels. But ppl forget that one, TV wasn't as big of a deal back then. We didn't need 200 channels. And two, most ppl used rabbit ears for their set. And you had to move it all around to get a good signal. So they got cable to basically watch the rabbit ear channels, but with a perfect signal all the time. And to be able to "split" that signal to other rooms in the house. Holy crap, it was like as if you were a back in the day baller.

Never had a Betamax, but it didn't get any better than a 19" Trinitron with dedicated buttons for channels 2-13 right there on the front of the TV.

"The 80s: The Decade That Made Us" is on National Geographic Channel right now. Good stuff.

The show mentions how AT&T turned down the opportunity to develop the cellular phone because they didn't think it would sell any more than maybe 100,000 phones. One of the biggest blunders in marketing history.
