Most Irish immigration was due to a famine, not economic poverty. The land could not physically sustain the population.
Just so you know: Total # of Black people in the U.S. 37,685,848.
You talking about two different circumstances. The Irish could have went any where else if they so decided. Blacks were forced here and oppressed by law up until 1964. Let that sink in for a minute.

52 short years later they want segregation again.

I don't know what that means. Do you have a real answer?

Probably because they knew you were only a visitor.
I've lived in Europe. It's a mixed bag with racism very there, and gets dark (no pun intended) in a fricking hurry.
I'm talking men openly propositioning my mom and sisters for sex because they assumed they were African prostitutes.

Wow that sounds like a guaranteed slap to the face!

so that maybe you will help open the eyes of your black friends that refuse to accept America presents them more opportunity for a successful life than any other country.
I remember this from my sociology class, so because America is best option for blacks we should be grateful? Never mind the mistreatment you would have it worse off anywhere else. So endure the bullshite. I think this fell in the branch of the battered wife syndrome. On why she is forced to stay with her abuser. I could be wrong but I think I right it's been a while since I took that class.

I've never been more angry in my entire life, and I don't get mad very easily.

Yes my parents refused to have my sister and I not live up to our potential despite the hardships that were sure to come and I am not only talking about race. They made us understand that systems run the world. Once you understand the system you can learn to thrive or succeed in the system (not just race related). Everything in society is governed by a system. Understanding that system will put you at an advantage over anyone else.

Hard work, putting real thought into your personal situation and figuring out how to make the best of it, living up to your potential, solid parenting.
Sounds like a recipe for success for anyone in this country. That's s message worth spreading.

I mentor at St. Pete Claver. I try to instill what my parents taught me, but when you see what these kids are up against in a city like New Orleans. It is easy to see how they fall into the same social pit falls as their parents uncles aunts etc etc. It is a never ending cycle that takes a lot of positive influence to break that cycle.

Well im glad they have a mentor to try to show them a different path in life. I sure would hope your not spewing your opinion you shared on this site with them, or they cycle of the white man is taking us down will never end. But more important of what you said is true, the reason black society is the way it is because it starts with your parents/ elders. if your not shown any other way, thats all you know, and the circle never ends
