evidently there is some type of unofficial black block party here every year for FQ fest. There is a reason the cops were set up right there.

Or maybe they were having a robust debate on the Saints QB situation.
One wants Rattler and the other is in the Shaduer corner.

Oh Man. Someone was posting yesterday bout the Strawberry and Spanish Day festival shootings, saying how it wasn't funny how they'd never been a shooting a NOLA festival. Guess he jinxed it!

Technically, it was basically after the festival had ended and outside of it on a side street, but it's close enough
(and not the first time either). Pathetic to have shootings at or nearby a festival. French Quarter Fest and the Strawberry Festival draw tons of people and the festivals are very spread out, so I can't say it's shocking. The shooter in this case was dumb enough to shoot in front of a bunch of cops and got caught.

Went to FQ fest w/European who Sat night argued that the U.S. should take all guns away.

This right after Strawberry Fest Sat shooting (not aware of at time of our debate) and before FQ fest Sun shooting.

Asked him how many Americans own guns. How many of the 45 million owners shot someone? Context and characteristics of shooters drive shootings, not guns.

Then context of 5-10 shot at Festivals, that should be grand times of life, set tone that undercuts my argument. No matter how correct I think I am.

Late in the day on the Sunday of FQF has always been sketchy as shite. Inside the festival areas has always been fine but canal and one or two blocks in would get bad towards the end.

3-4 people isn't a mass shooting. Well, to Americans it's not. To the Demon Party and libtard media? Well......

Pretty close to Canal, and Canal is pretty much a no-go after dark.

This is a big part of it. The first 100 block of each East-West street (between Canal and Iberville) seems to attract a seedy element.

There are several contributing factors to this. One is that the 100 block is actually outside of the Vieux Carre Commission's purview (Iberville is one of the boundaries), so that is in part why you see so many of those trashy T-shirt and souvenir shops on those blocks. Relatedly, the high rises on Canal cast wide shadows that impact lighting on the street along the 100 block. Couple these things with (until recently) an increasingly lax police presence in the area, and you get the perfect storm.
