I have a 2018 Nissan Sentra that has 79k that I use as my work car.

It runs like a sewing machine at all times until I get it on the interstate. At 65 it runs great. At 70 and above the engine becomes unstable and the RPMs jump up and down.

Any insight would be appreciated and TIA.

Sounds like it could be fuel related. Pump/filter/injectors.

Or your car caught coronavirus

Put it in neutral and try to run your rpms up a little, see if you have the same issue while sitting still.

This is a Toyota Carona site. Get that Nissan out of here.

there is a thing called valve float where the valve cant open and close fast enough to keep up with the engine rpms because the vale springs aren't strong enough.

that's probably what is happening, its not meant to drive that fast or you gonna blow that engine, just keep it 65 and under and you might get another 10 years out of it, push it and you be shopping for another ride soon

I've always associated valve float with pretty aggressive driving... not so much high ground speed, but high engine speed.

Sounds like a CVT related issue.

I think/hope the valve float comment was a joke.

Sounds unrelated to engine RPMs as the RPMs will be higher during acceleration than would be cruising at highway speed.

Hate to say it but it seems like a CVT issue. Not sure if your vehicle has an overdrive off switch or a manual shift mode. If so, play around with that and see if changes the behavior.

Might also bring it to AutoZone and check for any codes.

Thank you for the serious reply.

I don’t have a check engine light and the car has always felt a little shady to me. My pay off is right there with the trade in value so I think I’m just gonna get out of it. It’s already been in the shop once and like I said in the OP, it has just less than 80k.

I’m done with Nissan.

A four cylinder coup with 80k miles made in Japan should just now be stretching it’s legs and this a-hole is like an 82 Chevy Cavalier.
