I went there 25 years ago. No one had a problem with the names. Some faggy New Orleans guy is now complaining. I hope he gets hit in the crotch by one of those rent-a-bikes, and bursts a testicle

So instead of doing the professional thing like calling Kehoe and expressing his concerns. He thought it would be better to go straight to Nola.com (even if Nola approached him). It’s amazing that Kehoe has had a camp for over 50 years with the same Indian theme and not one person complained until this snowflake was offended. I know his kids do not go to Kehoe for school. I would love to know if he is this vocal and sissyfied at his kids school?

He made a tweet on his personal twitter saying look at this racist shite the school my ex put my kid in and posted a picture with Indian names of how the pick up line works at the school. Somebody at the terrible Nola.com contact him about it to go into more detail. Dumb move IMO.

Yeah that seems like a poor decision.

I just read the history of the word a few weeks back and I am almost positive it originally just meant black person with no negative connotations. The article I read was by a black man who teaches a course on the history of the word at a university.

I don't have any opinion on the OP, but I do think we humans in general need to stop trying to be the authority on what is offensive or not when the word doesn't affect us. A lot of white people fire back with "WELL BLACK PEOPLE USE THE WORD TOO" and while that may be correct, it doesn't mean you as a white person get to claim it isn't offensive.

It would be like if I was rude to someone and they told me it hurt their feelings and I said, "No, it didn't." I don't get to decide whether their feelings were hurt.

Kind of an indictment of where you live......or maybe plenty of people complained to the administration but nothing was done. Either way, to say a derogatory term is ok because no one complains is a cop out.

I am saying the actual definition of the word has literally changed

Squaw is still defined as a female Indian

It is clear that is how they were using the word in this camp

They should be judged on using a word by its actual current definition, and not how others have used it

I'm an Indian outlaw
Half Cherokee and Choctaw
My baby she's a Chippewa
She's one of a kind

All my friends call me Bear Claw
The Village Cheaftin' is my paw-paw
He gets his orders from my maw-maw
She makes him walk the line

You can find me in my wigwam
I'll be beatin' on my tom-tom
Pull out the pipe and smoke you some
Hey and pass it around

They have a record player where customers are allowed to select a record from their collection. I would die laughing if someone brought this record in and threw it on without telling brewery employees or owner.

A cop out is not having the balls to actually go the proper route of complaining and going straight to Nola. The camp actually teaches kids about different Indian tribes and Indian living along with other “camp stuff”. But let’s not that get in the way of a good snowflake mealtdown. Yes I am biased, I have been sending my kids to Kehoe school for 10 years and to make it sound like the school/camp is in any way racist is just ignorant!

But it’s even noted in the dictionary as an offensive term.

quote:

Definition of squaw
1 now often offensive : an American Indian woman
2 usually disparaging : woman, wife

Correct. It notates it is now sometimes/often used as an offensive term

But the definition is right there for you

A female Indian woman

I honestly never knew the term was offensive in nature until this thread. To compare it to spic, or the n bomb seems disingenuous

Maybe not. But squaw and redskin are derogatory terms that have no place in a child's education...except to maybe teach they are offensive to native american's. To be teaching about native american tribes and not know these terms are offensive is the definition of ignorance and should be pointed out. And if twitter is ok for the president then why isn't it good enough for Scott?
