The twins names are Justus and Freedom Fox.

But, it appears that the kids might overcome their upbringing.

it seems she believes the "miscarriage of justice" is the impact incarceration has on a family and not just the individual in jail. I don't take it to mean that she believes her husband is innocent or was unjustly persecuted, but to each his own.

ETA: Apparently it's ok to shoot at LEO as long as no one is injured

, I can't get the comments to pull up on this computer so I'm not sure what all is in there.

Is 60 years for armed robbery without any injuries par for the course? I really don't know.

If pleading guilty and 18 years is good enough for the court, why should going to trial and being found guilty cost you 60 years?

You do realize that additional crimes (like jury tampering) were committed after that deal was rejected, right?

Hell if I know.

Under normal circumstances I would think a 60 year sentence is high for armed robbery alone, but the fact that you shot at LEO and then attempted to tamper the jury after a 18 year plea deal was presented probably pissed some people off

If you got the same sentence for going to trial as you do taking a plea bargain....why would anybody ever take a plea deal and plead guilty?

It would grind the system down to a halt.

Good. Maybe then they'd purge all the unnecessary laws, stop using DA's like half-assed members of the mob, and cease coercion-by-over charging just so some prosecutor can bolster a conviction rate and run for office later as a self-proclaimed protector of the people.

He wasn't charged solely for armed robbery.

Link?

I'm inclined to believe you, but I can't find anything other than the link in the OP from the appeals court that says:

quote:

Two defendants were tried by jury and convicted of armed robbery, a violation of La. R.S. 14:64.

Sure, but you get the point about plea deals and the ultimate sentence if found guilty. If nothing else happened and he was sentenced to 30 years, it still seems ridiculous when they were accepting 18 previously.

A plea bargain avoids a lengthy trial and allows criminals the chance to avoid being convicted on a more serious charge. In this case, a plea of 18 years may have been presented to Richardson in which the max sentence was reduced and other charges may have been dropped. However, after he rejected the plea and decided to tamper the jurors they probably decided to throw the max sentence on all charges at him.

Yeah I understand all of that, but throwing around different punishments based on whether or not you try to fight a charge doesn't seem true to the spirit of the legal system. I know plea deals aren't going anywhere, but the entire premise doesn't sit well with me.

No, but maybe he got off easy if they only charged him with armed robbery.

§64. Armed robbery

A. Armed robbery is the taking of anything of value belonging to another from the person of another or that is in the immediate control of another, by use of force or intimidation, while armed with a dangerous weapon.

B. Whoever commits the crime of armed robbery shall be imprisoned at hard labor for not less than ten years and for not more than ninety-nine years, without benefit of parole, probation, or suspension of sentence.

Could have hit him with attempted murder, jury tampering, and flight from an officer as well.

The entire series on families and prison that nola.com is running is a joke. Every article is written with an agenda to try to make the reader feel better. They left out multiple key details on other stories just like this one.
