This is a better move than threatening a game in BR

The move was approved by the 32 NFL teams in a virtual meeting Wednesday, and it was not a surprise — the possibility of the game being pushed back a year was actually built into the original agreement when New Orleans' 2024 bid was accepted back in 2018.

They knew the date of Mardi Gras, when they bid and it was approved. Complete incompetence.

Mardi Gras was on Feb 12 in 2013, Superbowl was played on Feb 3.

Yes, 2013. They moved some of the parades to earlier dates so they could still have the week of the SB clear.

It wasn't the same weekend when the SB was awarded. The schedule would've been similar to the last SB in NOLA: the SB was supposed to be held the weekend before Mardi Gras weekend when the minor krewes are rolling before the Mardi Gras crowds really show up in the city. The Superbowl crowd floods the city, then when that's done, they leave and Mardi Gras floods the city.

However, the players and owners agreed to expand the season to 17 games starting in 2021, pushing the SB dates back a week. The SB would've been the same weekend as Bacchus and Endymion and that's nowhere near the same thing as doing it the week before.

At least NOLA had the wherewithal to realize the league might do that and were able to protect themselves in the contract from outright losing the SB if the league did add a game.

Isnt the Superbowl February 4th in 2024? Unless they moved the date

Isnt Mardi Gras Day Tuesday, February 13 in 2024?

If anything they moved the Superbowl....they cant move Mardi Gras

ETA: Nevermind...I see they moved the SuperBowl to Feb 11th 2020
