Jason Adams, who killed his young passenger when he drunkenly drove a Lamborghini into the Tchoupitoulas Street floodwall two years ago, pleaded guilty to vehicular homicide under an agreement with New Orleans prosecutors on Monday.

Criminal District Court Judge Robin Pittman will sentence Adams to 10 years in prison, with 5 years of that sentence to be set aside, under the terms of Adams' agreement with the Orleans Parish District Attorney's Office.

With credit for good behavior, Adams could serve under two years in prison.

quote:

Adams was driving a Lamborghini Huracan at an estimated 118 mph when he hit a curb and slammed the car into the floodwall near Felicity Street, killing Lirette.

Authorities said Adams, 32, registered a blood-alcohol level of .11 percent, which is above the legal limit, in a test taken about about three hours after the May 4, 2016 crash.

That was a friend's little sister he killed. Regardless of sentence, I'm glad they can now move on as best they can.

Seems he got a good deal when all is said and done.

Still terrible for the family though. Isn't he the one who contacted the girls family recently?

They are figuring in good time to the sentence.

These stories always remind me of Leonard Little. How does one guy get 10 years, and another (repeatedly) gets probation?

quote:

In 1998, Leonard Little crashed into and killed Susan Gutweiler in St. Louis, Missouri. When tested, his blood alcohol content was 0.19 percent, 0.11 points exceeding the legal limit of 0.08 in the state of Missouri. Little received four years probation

quote:

On April 24, 2004, he was arrested again for driving while intoxicated after being stopped by The Ladue Police Department for driving 78 miles per hour in a 55 mile-per-hour zone on Interstate 64. After being convicted of misdemeanor speeding but acquitted of DWI, Little received two years of probation on May 6, 2005
