I know nothing about horse racing and horse herpes. we enjoy taking the kids to starlight racing. It's something to do at night and the kids like watching the horses.

Does this deal mean the races are not happening and/or we shouldn't bring the kids to see them? I'll hang up and listen.

trashy thoroughbred people gonna have trashy thoroughbreds. What do you expect?

Not everyone can handle the affluence of the QH racing world.

Yep you right yall sure run for more money than the T'Breds and your Louisiana circuit sucks because yall dont have the days that the T'Breds do. And yall dont shove the money in at the windows like the T'Bred people. But hey its great owning a quarterhorse that you cant run and when you do run its for no money.

They are still running. Actually drew their card for the derby prep and supporting stakes for next weekend.

damn Oh it was a joke. I just like giving Aspy a hard time casue I know she does the TB thing. Lighten up. I got no beef with TBs. They give a little height to the quarters if you do it right.

But FWIW, I think even a cursory review of the sales results from the yearling sale for LQHBA and the LTBA would show in favor of the QH. And from what I can see, all the tracks are relying on slot money to survive. So neither TB nor QH racing is killing it.

Just sayin.

So the QH yearlings bring more money and run for less money. TB run for more money than QH fact..........

Jesus 41 Horses have contracted Herpes. Over 300 horses are quarantined and are now stuck for months including Gunrunner which is a Kentucky Derby horse.

Not stuck for months. The strain most have is the mild strain that is probably present in most horse populations.

And gun runner is 4. Not eligible for the derby, though he did run a good 3rd last year.

Fox 8 News is now reporting all 300 horses are quarantined until further notice and they do not expect any horses to leave the area for at least four months.

What sucks is how great this year started off. Purses and field sizes up. The few times I've been the quality of the horses seems better too.

This was the first time in a while I was optimistic about the meet.

Now, the real question...

Does Churchill strip the preps of their points like the sunland derby last year (also EHV-1)? Or, because they own the track, do they keep them?

It's very disappointing. The beginning of the meet was promising, and it was nice to see trainers like McPeek and Casse have stables there again.

The Lecomte normally doesn't attract many good shippers other than what Pletcher or Maker may send over from Florida, so it'll be fine with just the locals. I can't see CDI stripping the preps at one of its tracks of points, but the Risen Star obviously won't be the same quality it normally is if a shipping ban is still in place.

It definitely hurts that Stidham's horses can't run. He hits the entry box pretty hard. I can't imagine what the fields would look like if the barns of Amoss, Cox, and Jones were affected.

Seems a lot higher overhead for those TBs too. But again, I'm not bashing TB racing. Just bustin chops. But all in good fun. I wish both were more popular and more successful.

This is a horribly contagious, airborne-spread horse virus.

Also, this has been going on since December. Not new news.

December was only 12 days ago. That's new news to me.
