Agrument About Bar Closing Time Sparks Fatal French Quarter Shooting - nola.com
quote:
At some point in the night, James Nero, 21, an employee at Attiki Bar, and another man who previously worked at Attiki Bar, argued about when the establishment should close
quote:
Just after 3 a.m., the shooter, Nero, exited the bar at 230 Decatur Street and retrieved a gun from a man in a nearby GMC SUV. Minutes later, another man left the bar and confronted Nero in the street. The two men argued briefly, but when the man attempted to punch Nero, he pulled out a gun and shot him in the neck, according to a nearby business owner who observed the scene on surveillance video.
After shooting his former coworker, Nero unloaded his gun, placed it in the middle of the road and waited for police to arrive, the arrest warrant and nearby business owner confirm. The man who handed Nero the gun, sat on the SUV's hood and also made no attempt to flee. When asked by police who had shot the man, Nero admitted he had. Police arrested him at the scene, but did not apprehend the man atop the SUV.

There is no “stand your ground” in New Orleans. This guy will probably end up next to Ronald gasser and that kid who fought the hobo

A requirement of gun ownership should be being punched by someone 6'7 and 300 pounds. If you can't take a lick, you don't deserve to be a pussy and own lethal force.

I never said people couldn't pass it. The point is understanding what begets lethal force.
A probable fist fight does not warrant you shooting someone because you got your gun first and are a huge pussy.

People have been killed by one punch to the head, just so you know.
It is feasible that he could have feared significant injury.

Agreed.

True. And now look where this person is.
Could be an adult and always talk the situation down. But nah, let's argue about a bars closing time, whatever reason it really doesn't matter, and shoot and kill someone.

This is shitty writing. Was it Nero and 2 different guys or was it the same guy the whole time?
If it was the same guy, it could get tricky since he left the argument, grabbed a gun, then continued. Although in Louisiana, you have no legal responsibility to retreat.
Sounds like he got scared he might get jumped or worse, so grabbed his gun for protection. He didn’t escalate it, just protected himself.

You need to pack that BS, John Wayne 1960s rhetoric and figure out these aren't the same times.

Why? There’s not really many legit reasons to fight someone. The person starting the fight would be the John Wayne wannabe.
