Please spare me the NLA/Arkansas/Cowboys/You call that livin'? jokes. I may find myself working in a pretty rural area for a bit and Minden is the closest thing to a "city" nearby. Is there a place that I wouldn't have to dodge rats(or bullets)? The internet is very little help. I anxiously await your ashholish responses.

I'd drive the extra 20-30 minutes to Shreveport but that's not much of an upgrade.

Well years ago the Chateau Normandy Apartments on Lewisville Rd were not too bad, but this was the late 90's.

I have a friend that is renting a converted garage apartment in Minden. It is behind her house, which is a very nice historic home.

If you must have an apartment in Minden Lamplighter Apartments is the answer. There are no upscale, or luxury apartments there, however. Probably pretty easy to find a decent rent house or wouldn't be too bad to drive from Bossier or Ruston with plenty of options there.

That may be perfect. How should I proceed?

And both Shreveport and Ruston would make my commute over an hour each way. Minden is relatively close and they have an Anytime Fitness, so it'd be ok if the place and price were right.

Dry shite town. You'd think a town that crummy and with that infrastructure would want the extra boost in funds from sales tax on booze.
