Did he mention that this was under the King of France, not the United States/ and the years this happened was around 1725? Did he mention whites convicted of crimes often received the same punishment? Did he mention a different symbol was used in different regions of French territory?

Knowing the symbol has that dark history, should it be compared to the likes of the confederate flag?
Fitzmorris said no.
"The fleur de lis was the symbol of a monarchy. The United States of America was a slave-holding republic, not just the south. Where do you stop? Do you get rid of all symbols?
Seck agrees, saying that the symbol has been embraced by the city as one of unity.
move along

The Mayor of New Orleans really stepped in it this time.
I mean, if you going to ban all the symbols of "hatred", can't stop at a few old Civil War statues when the very symbol of oppression BEFORE the Civil War, the Fleur-de-lis, is the symbol on the city's crest and favorite sports team.

Time to start getting rid of the haters instead of the things we hate. Jesus Christ!

In your article the guy who is talking about it's slave history also says it has been embraced as a symbol of unity, and that it shouldn't be compared to the Confederate Flag.
Then you come in here and compare it...
Then you come in here and compare it...

A lot of the French people I've talked to really dislike the fleur de lis. They consider it a symbol of monarchy, which it is, and so therefore anti-democratic. They seemed surprised that we like it. But of course here it doesn't have those connotations; the average Chalmettian broad with a fleur de lis shoulder tat has no clue where the symbol originally came from. Things have different meanings to different people.

We also need to rename the French Quarter because the French hated everyone. Let's rename it the Harmony Quarter!

Only a matter of time before the American flag is replaced. This county has lost it's way. Sad.

I hate to break it to you but they're French... They don't like anything.

Obviously, we must rename the team to a sensitive option such as the 'New Orleans Gold Team'.
Do you know how many people have lost their lives because of gold? Wtf is wrong with you?

Fine, we'll use "Diamond Team" instead of "Gold Team".
Happy?
