Hell my son wanted to do cub scouts until he figured out that he actually had to learn things and work at it. He thought it was all BB gun shooting and rocket launching because the jamboree was the first thing we went to. Thankfully we joined at the end of the year so the dues were prorated and he decided he didn’t want to continue before we bought all the uniform stuff.

Now I just take him to a field to shoot BB guns and get him rocket kits to build and launch. He’s happy as a clam.

The tailgating comparison is strange

well to be fair, when we play in Crowley they have a big parking lot over looking some of the fields the 7u and 8u tournaments are on. It's outside the gates and they don't say anything but plenty of tailgating going on, even watching the game on tailgates and having a good time.

And wtf you think most parents are doing at the hotel bar after the game with the other team parents

Oh and I will say the towns like Youngsville, Broussard, Crowley.......yea these tournaments are huge huge booms for the economy. I'm talking huge booms. It's asinine when you start thinking about it.

Like this weekend, 2ds tournament in Lafayette alone is like 96 teams in total. That's over 1000 kids plus parents, siblings, extended family coming in town. Eating at their restaurants, staying at local hotels, filling up on gas there.

Huge economic engine.

People think because your kid made all stars she's travel level. Travel is who is your best kid on the all star team? Ok I'll take that one from every nearby park. That's the difference.

ive sat thru 6 years and probably 300 plus games in multiple states. I have seen some spectacularly shifty “travel” ball. Yes there are a handful of teams that deserve the majors moniker. But the vast majority are Aaa or AA coached by a Dad.

Nice. See lots of usssa in there....need to get that boy chasing some perfect game rings now.

BTW for those that doubt how much better travel is.....watch the perfect game elite invite only world series at the end of the year and see the difference for yourself. Or the usssa Orlando invite only one.

And realize those kids that you see on TV in the llws.....year they all come from high aaa or major travel teams that go back and play little league too.

They give out rings for 1st and 2nd. Your cousin didn’t lose most of his games
the hell. 4 teams. You lose two on Saturday and win Sunday then run riled in final. You get that bling.

Thank God my son gives no shits about them. There are five or six he has that he is proud of. The rest are kinda silly

I’ll just say this and leave it alone… growing up (I’m 30something), some of my best memories with the coolest people were at the ballparks, hotels, and restaurants we went to every summer. We had a good group, without any drama and my parents still to this day talk about those times. I’m glad we did it.

I’ve only done it for a summer with my 8 year old, and while it was nothing serious and only two tournaments, he absolutely loves it and can’t wait to do it again this summer

For most of us, it’s about way more than baseball
