Jacksonville guru here:

Beaches-nice but if you like to go out strong police presence (ask bama and beer)
St. Johns town center- great restaurants and bars traffic can be bad
Riverside- older neighborhood but has been revived nice restaurants (black sheep) and pretty retro
Mandarin - best place to live in jacksonville for schools
West and Northside avoid at all costs
Downtown-Arena (good concerts, events), jags , Jax suns- great minor league faculties

Yep race track road. About to go look at a house in St. John's country club. I like that neighborhood and the golf course.

Building up right there also. Durbin crossing is growing big time. The new hot area is the property across US 1 near Nocatee just south of racetrack.

And about 2 miles from the beach and Atlantic Ocean. Really is a hidden gem.

If you get into the new subdivisions early like in phase 1 you can get a very nice house at a good price. The appreciation of the houses out here is staggering. My gf is a closer coordinator for a builder out here. By the time they get to the last phase of the homes being built the first houses have already appraised for 100,000 or more.

I loved Jacksonville.

Even if you hate it there are many cities to go to for a day trip.

Thanks for all of the good comments. I don't have kids, but really like St. Johns County, Mandarin and the Town Center. Ate at Ragtime Cafe in Neptune Beach with great coconut shrimp. Will check out Middleburg...

If you don't choose the beach area, clay county is where it's at. Middleburg has great homes for a cheap prices. Relatively no crime and about as country as you can get. Do not live around in the region from base to downtown. Horrible areas with high crime rates.

There are plenty of things to do: St. Augustine is loaded with activities, the air show is this weekend, jags games are fun. And you live close to Valdosta, Orlando, Tampa, Daytona, savannah, etc

Have to agree with this, I am in M'burg too and its close enough to have access to anything you want/need but far enough away to not be in the middle of it....except Blanding sucks arse during rush hour

ETA: my brother lives out in Jax Beach and I would love it, walking distance of the bars and restaurants, beach, etc but way too far of a commute and have too much time invested to move right now lol
