No every roofing company tells you they are "hail damage experts". It cracks me up. Some roofing companies will even file the claim for you if they think you have damage before you have an idea as to what's going on. They are dirty, sneaky little bastards.

A word of advice from a contractor, do not sign any contract until numbers have been exchanged, and any roofing company worth anything, will complete the job prior to accepting a penny. Also make sure they have insurance. This is more important than having a license in my opinion.

He worked with the contractor and asked if he could just put metal on top of the old instead of paying for the removal and replacement.
Many people do this but rest assured, it's best to do a tear off, lay new felt and above all, NO slats.

It's an unspoken rule that insurance pays for all roofs. Just find some roofing company to find hail damage.

This is just really fricking dumb.

it is the first of March and I have a feeling there will be some sever weather rolling through here within the next few weeks. Maybe you will get "lucky" and have some hail damage from a storm.

But OP is here in Jax. Hail is pretty rare here. Damaging hail is really rare.

and find a roofing company that can locate damage

Problem is 99% of these roofers are gonna say "Oh yeah, you got hail damage" and point at every little blister and imperfection and tell you it's from hail. Shingles can have many different types of marks that aren't hail damage.

(like dings on flashing)

Dings on flashing are one indicator. I'll put it this way... If there are no hail dents on the soft metals, there won't be any hail damage to the shingles. But there can absolutely be hail dents on the soft metals but still no damage to the shingles.

The mere fact that hail hit a roof does not automatically mean that the shingles were actually damaged by it. Especially if it's smallish hail, it's entirely possible it did not create actual damage.

All you need is a ladder and a ball peen hammer.

Easy for the trained eye to see that that's not hail damage.

After so many years, I believe they stop covering a replacement.

You mean once a roof hits a certain age or condition?

You could actually have a very old roof in really crappy condition due to age, and if it has storm damage, insurance will cover it. Of course, it will be highly depreciated and the actual cash value payment up front will be very small.

I'll just have to say respectfully that there was surely a miscommunication there.

Guarantee the OP despises people on welfare as they know how to "game" the system and get something for nothing.

Right OP, you're one of those aren't you???

Just an FYI, with the original position posted you are no better than the people you loathe.

This is dumb. And nothing like those who game the welfare system. He at least pays an insurance bill each month...
