I wonder if they can encase self propelled rounds inside of that casing that appears in the video. Maybe a round with a small amount of propellant and a radio so it can be directed at a fast moving target, like a fighter.

That'd be perfect for clearing out some of these nuisance hogs around here.

The projectiles are so fast that at short and medium range the target has no time to take evasive action. Just point, take the appropriate lead, and shoot.

They keep saying how cheap the round is, but how much does it cost to generate 25 megawatts, to fire that cheap round? Also what are they using to generate 25 megawatts?

It is very interesting, but the trade off here is that the decrease in ammo cost is likely negated at this time by the cost of generating the power to fire that weapon.

Don't modern military ships already have nuclear power plants?

The big issue here is the massive amount of power that has to be instantaneously released to fire the gun, and that is just one time.
Do the ships even have that capability?

The Zumwalt-class destroyer's are the only ones with the power to fire the railgun. The first one will be deployed in 2019 on the LBJ
