The venue’s special event permit, press secretary LaTonya Norton said, was for an artist’s market, so “they were operating outside of the scope and hours of that permit with live entertainment shows well into the night

the venue didn’t have the required promoter’s license needed to charge a cover for live entertainment, displayed “several illegal signs,” had not finalized a conditional use permit, has outstanding taxes, and has not signed a lease for city property being used.
I’m pro business, but crap, get your shite together Zony Mash

Looks like Scott over at Courtyard is using his connection to Cantrell to stifle his competition.

I liked the old location (Courtyard) better than the new one.

The other parking lot had more nostalgia paired with furniture rescued from the trash bin.

I hear you, but the city offices are worse than you could imagine. I've hosted a pop-up at Zony for the last year and recently opened a business in New Orleans. I can tell you Zony isn't the issue here. The permits the city offers are outdated and difficult to understand. They're understaffed so there's no one to help and most calls for an update or re-definition of permits by legislatiors go unheard. Also, I've had the opportunity to deal with the revenue department for several issues: tax sale redemptions, sales tax payments and clearances. They've got two of the sweetest ladies around helping them but they're swamped and their records department undermines everything they do. It's impossible to find record of payments before the Cyber attack a few years ago and even payments paid recently go missing from the system at random. The new city hall proposed by Latoya makes you think she's the most tone deaf person in a leadership position but she's consistently outdone by her own bosses. The fact that she'll be expected to win reelection basically unopposed really makes you wonder how deep the corruption goes. I try to give the benefit of the doubt to the public when the issues are so egregious.

Classic case of overregulation and bureaucracy that makes it difficult for industry..

so your pro business, yet you think these kinds of things are ok?
A fricking promoters license? wtf, more like "PAY ME FOR THE PRIVILAGE LICENSE"
shite like this is crazy. Permits were orginally put in place to keep customers safe, i.e. food. They have turned into a fricking racket like they are the damn mafia.
frick taxes and fees and permits like this. Crazy and anti free market

I feel you. I worked on a team that renovated historic buildings for a while, and spent weeks of my life in city hall dealing with permits. It’s a pain in the dick, but still. Some of the things listed fall outside of the things you are talking about. It sounds like they are just kind of piecing things together as they go. It’s likely not malicious but seems as though they lack the oversight & direction as they expand their business model.

You think this is exclusive to New Orleans? Lmao
Of course I wouldn’t want to pay it. I don’t want to pay my increasing property tax either. Or my utility bill that includes trash pick up that comes once every 10 days, among other things
But guess what? I know the consequences if I don’t pay them. Doesn’t mean I like it.
