smoking weed is pretty bad for you. i think it's worse than smoking tobacco (but the rates are different so the results are more equal)

but ignore that

we're talking about smoking....IN BARS

excess drinking is TERRIBLE for you.

Second hand smoke is correlated with a 25-30% increase in lung cancer according to recent studies. That is a statistically, but not practically, significant number when you consider the rate of getting lung cancer in the first place, imo.

There have been studies that contradict that. Plus, people have a choice to avoid bars that allow smoking. In fact, I did an unbelievable thing a couple of weeks ago. When I walked into a smoky bar, I didn't like it so I walked out!

what you do is go to the local government and tell them to force the bar owner to not allow smoking so you enjoy the owners bar how you like it

are people that surprised that a liberal city passed a law that most liberal cities in the country have already passed?

I have no problem with the government disincentivising something that drives up everyone's healthcare premiums. You can still go smoke outside Jesus, crime me a river.

You may be genetically predisposed to cancer and heart disease. We should kill you now to keep everyone else's premiums low.

Fried food affects more people than smoking. We should outlaw that shite as well. Where would you like to stop?

It scares the shite out of me how many people in this thread are ok with the government banning legal activities at places of private ownership.

I hope the majority of them are just being ignorant because it's smoking. I feel like I'm beating a dead horse and they will never understand that it's not about smoking.

What people don't realize is stuff like this sets the precedent for future restrictions on private owners. Not just businesses, but also restrictions at your home, like the charcoal ban San Fransisco is trying.

This thread has frustrated the shite out of me.

Tobacco precedes the Bill of Rights, without the tobacco plant, there would have been no reason for America to exist. Smoking is more American then apple pie, rock and roll and the Forth of July. When Thomas Jefferson spoke of the pursuit of happiness, he was specifically referring to being allowed to grow Tobacco and smoke it. Now take your shitty Soviet flag and shove it...
You lose. Take it outside. Deal with it. Boo hoo.

Traditionally, when it comes to vices, nola has been slow to adopt restriction. It usually takes pressure from outside.
