Only history podcast imo that rivals hardcore history is Daryl’s martyrmade.
I would also add that Real Dictators is another great podcast. They cover some of the big names Dictators, but will also cover some of the lesser known ones. The number of dictators that have ruled in South America is fascinating.
Another good one is Fall of Civilizations. I am about halfway finished the second episode on the Mongols.

Idk why but I could not get into Blueprint for Armageddon (most people’s favorite series) which is why I thought I was doomed to never like his stuff.
Ghosts of the Ostfront if you haven't yet.

What’s the best order in which to listen to all of the HH podcasts?

I'm not sure there a best order. Depends on where your interests lie. "Ghosts of the Ostfront" is a dive into the Eastern Front of WW2. "Blueprint" is WW1. "Punic Nightmares" covers Rome v Carthage.
The only early episode I have listened to before he started doing very long, multi-episode topics was "Steppe Stories". It not only covers the Mongols, but the Huns and Turks that were the nomadic rulers of the Steppe at one time or another. I prefer the long, in-depth topics so any of those are great places to start. When he starts a series, he goes all the way past the beginning to events that lead up to the topic of the series.
Some of the blitz episodes are good too. The one about torture and public executions (cannot remember the name..."Painfotainment" maybe?) is really good. As is the one about developing the nuke.

His series on the Mongols and in the Persians were my favorites

I enjoyed the Mongol one more than the Persians, but yes they're good.
"Death Throes of the Republic" covers pretty much the rise and fall of the Roman Empire and is fantastic as well. I think it just depends on what piques your interest.

quote:my favorite was the mongol series and if you listen to the bonus episode it’s 6 episodes so over 10 hours of content, probably closer to 20, but you really can’t go wrong with any of them imo. Loved ghosts of the ostfront for ww2, loved blueprint for armogeddon for ww1, loved death throes of the public for Rome, loved king of kings for Persia/Ancient Greek, loved twilight of the aesir for Norse/germanic, loved Apache tears for American Indian albeit 30 minute episode, loved Celtic holocaust for Gauls/celtic history, supernova in the east if you want a detailed description of the pacific theater of WW2. Dan Carlin has pretty much never made a bad series imo but that could also be because I’m a gigantic history nerd. So for me to say Daryl cooper gets close is high praise. Btw Dan is currently doing an excellent series on Alexander the Great. Highly recommend.

It’s like me listening to Jesse Waters. Show ends and I scramble for the controller

How do people have time for a 40 hour Dan Carlen podcast?
Take off work for a week, of course

Same. I’m not terribly interested in that era of history though.
I’ve liked everything else I’ve heard from Carlin. But his entire catalogue is not on Spotify which is a bummer.

I’ve been loving The History of Byzantium on Spotify. 319 episodes devoted to the Byzantine Empire. Might be too niche for some.

Bump. Finally finished this. He didn’t say anything that really set off triggers. Maybe a few disagreements on timelines and causes in WW2.
Then this morning most of x was saying “his love for Germany came from his hatred for Jews.”
I distinctly remember him saying that his hatred of Jews came from his love of Germany and feeling that Jews were screwing over the average German.
What I’ve noticed is that nobody screams at him for his Jonestown or Palestine/Israel takes. But the second you bring up that Hitler wasn’t born hating Jews or on a bull horn screaming for concentration camps during his rise to power it becomes an implicit endorsement of everything he ever did.
It’s like when you say "I get vaccines for kids, just not 40 rolled into one or the hep B for a two-year-old."
And the response is “ you’re anti-VAX!!”

Exactly. The more you see these reactions from people the more I agree with Daryl that world war 2 is the myth around the American world order. Every enemy we fight is the next Hitler and the greatest enemy we all face is racism. It all leads back to the 1940s

Our citizens have no time or patience for nuance.
Every story has to be condensed into one incomplete sentence. Even better if it fits the narrative that had traction yesterday.
We have to rush to the next story so we can be experts on it also, or rush to the next cute cat video.

That’s a funny meme, except I’m pretty sure Peterson has been called to HR a few times

It has been awesome, but it brings me to my one major gripe about Carlin and Hardcore History: It takes him entirely too damn long to put out episodes now.
He released the first "Twilight if the Aesir" in January of 2023. The second d in November of '23. Then the first episode of "Mania for Subjugation" in June of '24. The second in January of this year. Hell, it took 3 entire years for the 6 episodes of "Supernova in the East". July 2018-June 2021.

some episodes can be very rough. The prologue for gods socialist about Jim jones was rough. The only podcast a friend of mine ever had to just turn off because the subject matter was so brutal.
Top 3 podcast series of all time for me.
I learned more about civill rights in the Jim Jones pod series than I knew my entire life before then.

Just because uneducated people have hijacked the conversation doesn't make what happened in the 1930s and 1940s any less true. Daryl Cooper's problem is that he takes nuanced topics and twists them for his own designs. The uneducated masses on both sides then fall for it hook, line, and sinker. His thesis that Winston Churchill was the biggest villain of the Second World War is absolute bullshite.
