If money isn't a concern, or you follow the steps as mentioned to ensure your cost of living differences are met there is no reason to not choose Denver over Houston.

Denver is amajingggggg

Do you like what you do?

If so and you can have the same job in Denver that you do in Houston, you should leave and not think twice.

Denver is booming which means traffic sucks, and housing is expensive.

Denver all day. I’d miss LSU but I’d love that mountain air a lot more. Every game is on TV now days. You can fly in for a big game once a year.

Houston is overrated IMO.

I love Denver as much as the next guy, but i was just there and couldnt believe the cost of housing and how bad its gotten. I was seeing 400-500k homes in average at best suburbs for 1500-1800 sq feet.

If you can work from home then id move there and live outside of Denver, but with the traffic and costs, it wouldnt be worth commuting.

I grew up in the south, but did a stint with my company in Denver and have the following to offer:

- Colorado is a wonderful place, if you like the outdoors. Lots of sunshine, very low humidity and the ability to be in the mountains within 45 minutes are just fantastic.

- Opportunities for hunting and fishing are just everywhere, as there is a lot of wildlife and a ton of public property to use at your leisure.

and now for the negatives:

- as others have said, the cost of living is just shocking. Housing, in particular is one hell of a lot higher than anywhere I have ever lived and will absolutely hamper your enjoyment unless you get a hefty cost of living raise. I would be sure to use some of the on-line cost of living calculators to quantify the reality.

- Coloradans don't like outsiders. There have been a few massive influxes of Texans and Californians through the years and Coloradans had to suffer because of it. I found a lot of native Coloradans to be openly hostile towards outsiders...and if you go there with a southern accent, you will have to deal with that.

True on the outsiders from Cali and Tx in Denver thing. Have relatives in Cali, Idaho, Colo. And pretty much most of the greater NW(Oregon, Idaho, Utah) dislikes the Californians, that are willing to spend their obscene profits from the Cali housing markets, and spike the other state's housing markets.."Californians Go Home" was a popular bumper sticker before the world went super PC.

Sans maybe wealthy enclaves like Sun Valley, Jackson Hole, Couer d' Alene, Lake Tahoe, Carmel/Big Sur, etc..that are predominantly driven by just the uber wealthy that dictate the local housing markets..the "normal folk" would prefer they never really came.

Non-techie Austinites have experienced this the last twenty years.

I grew up in Colorado Springs. Loved Colorado, but the cost of living is crazy high. I read about 10 years ago the average home price was 250k.

A previous poster jolted my memory of as a kid we used to make fun of Texans on ski trips. lol
