A webber will be a better grill with better materials and will last longer.
If you only grill 5x a year and can keep it in a garage, the cheap grill will be fine.

Check your local area Lowes stores. All Webers were 50% off. I got a $699 Genesis for $350, NIB. There was a thread on the OB a couple of weeks ago.

Weber moved all of their production to (I think) China in the past few years. Supposedly their current stuff is not up to the standards set by the Weber of old.
I've heard that BroilKing used to actually make some Weber products (in the USA) and apparently makes a damn fine grill that's reasonably priced and excellent quality.
ETA: I was wrong. Per Martini’s post below, only the Weber Spirit is made in China.

He said he wants a grill, not a smoker....

I got a Weber Q1200 portable with the stand. It’s a little over priced but when grilling for the household in the evening it does the trick. Smaller equals easier to clean. If you’re cooking at the Boudreaux family reunion you would need larger.

A BGE can be a grill just as much as a smoker, Emeril.

Weber has the Spirit made in China. All others are made in the US. But most gas grills are made in China and virtually all of them are made with globally sourced parts as is most everything these days.

Get you the classic Weber kettle. I’ve had one for years and it is an outstanding grill.
