First let me state clearly - what this 13 year old did was reprehensible and he should pay for his crime and his parents/guardians should also pay for the restoration of the damaged property.

In many crime cases especially violent crime cases kids aren't given bonds of 45k and in the vast majority of cases the parents are coddled with excuses - BS hold parents criminially and civilly for crimes, injuries and property damage their children cause. So what if they are in public assistance - send that money to the victims.

On the social media posts it's amazing how many of the "you can't control what kids do" crowd is clamoring for old school measures.

I am all for it especially if it applies TO ALL offenders.

The comments on social media news reports about this are such a 180 from the vast majority(especially violent crimes) youth crime stories it's almost comical - but it's not funny - criminal behaviour does indeed start at home and a lack of accountability causes it.

Lastly I never thought I'd see mainstream media using made up words in their reports.........

“He’s scary,” Wallace said. “Landry say no more hug a thug law. You not finna hug this thug, I don’t care how old he is. He needs justice.” per WAFB report on FB.

Kid's that bring guns to school don't get 45K bonds......

Maybe parents would have more involvement and control in what their kids do when it hits them in the wallet.

Sure thing. For starters, parents are civilly liable for their kids damaging property, at least to some degree

Criminally - ”The doctrine of personal guilt is one of the most fundamental principles of our jurisprudence," Justice William O. Douglas Wrote in the 1945 case Bridges v. Wixon. "It prevents the persecution of the innocent for the beliefs and actions of others."

This protection is anchored in the Due Process Clause and the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution. It bars the government from utilizing "guilt by association" to punish people merely for being members of an unpopular group or organization without evidence of their own specific intent to commit a crime.

I know parents are responsible for property damage, but they are rarely held accountable. During COVID 3 homes and several cars in my neighborhood had windows broken as some teenagers from and APT complex a little over a mile away. The kids were caught no parent or guardian was held responsilbe for the property damage or the stolen items that could no longer be found.

Property damage pales in comparison to the costs of violent crimes.

If the parents are on state, NGO or federal assistance - remove them from eligibility. Make it hurt.
