They had direct flights to Denver, Charlotte, Memphis and a few others as well. I used to fly out of there a lot for work. I don't really fly that much anymore.
There were also a lot more airlines back then. You had
Dallas for AA
Atlanta for Delta
Houston for Continental
Denver for United
Charlotte for US Airways
Memphis for Northwest
etc.
Now with them consolidated down to the Big 3, you don't need multiple hubs for each in a place like BTR.
The Memphis and Cincinnati hubs that delta/Northwest had don't even exist anymore

Is it Cincy or Cleveland that has the abandoned concourse?

BTR had Frontier for a while too and some small airline called ExpressJet that I used a few times. They had $1 beer. No wonder they went under

You fly regularly and went on a Frontier jet?
I've heard horrible things. Like not quite as bad as Spirit, but still very bad.

I used to take it to Denver fairly often when it was available. My previous job had an office in Denver that I had to go to several times per year.
I don't really fly much these days but I used to travel about 20 weeks per year. I changed jobs when the kids got a little older.

Weird. I'm seeing $298 leaving on 6/16 and returning on 6/19.

I believe that's Cleveland. United had a mini hub back in the day. There are tons of other airports that used to be airline hubs that grew into the terminal space that was abandoned (Nashville, Raleigh/Durham) are a couple that come to mind.

They announced it about 6 months ago. The flights are starting next week
