Flying into Reagan is far more convenient than Dulles.

Hope it's economically sustainable over the long term.

Govt workers? I doubt they will be up early enough to be on that flight. Gov and workers do not go together.

Nice to see them upgauging some of the flights with new (to them) Mesa RJ's coming into the fleet but I would think they'd need to see a lot of demand to put a BTR-IAD flight in the schedule. Would be nice to get the premium heavy CRJ-550 though

I fly UAL a lot. All of my IAH flights were on the nicer ERJ's. It's been a while that I've seen anything but the larger ERJ, but maybe I'm just lucky. It's an upgrade machine out of BTR.

BTR is not even close to being on the radar for the premium-heavy CRJ-550. I've still yet to see a CRJ-550 in the wild anywhere. Some of my colleagues claim to have flown on one, but I haven't even seen one to book on my routes. Would be cool to be on a plane whose cabin config is nearly half allocated to first class

Their heavy traffic has always been Houston, Dallas, Atlanta.

You could get routes to Cincinnati and a few other cities direct but those were mainly fortress hubs for various airlines.

This is a "look at what we can do" project for the current administration in BTR. I predict it'll be gone once the subsidy runs out.

quote:

The direct flights are the result of a deal between East Baton Rouge's city-parish government and the airline that includes about $2 million in revenue guarantees from local, state and federal sources if the route underperforms, Dunn said.

Airport commissioners had been trying to build the fund and establish the direct service for about a decade. Then the airport received a $1 million Small Community Air Service Development Program grant in 2021 that was matched with $200,00 from the Greater Baton Rouge Economic Partnership with the Baton Rouge Area Chamber, according to the news release.

Of the 5x daily United Flights to IAH, 2x are on the E175 and 3x are on the ERJ-145.

E175:
7:04a
9:45a

E145:
12:11p
2:00p
4:11p

You miss the word "premium" before that?

Nobody is saying it's a heavy plane, nut with 10 first class seats, 20 extra legroom seats and 20 economy seats it is great for elites

Didn't realize they even used the 145 anymore.

Honestly this is probably why UAL will always be a distant third in market share out of BTR. They need another rush hour connection somewhere from BTR to change that. Maybe EWE or IAD?

I don't think there are enough gates for that to happen on the A concourse.

United has always had a much larger regional jet fleet, and especially jets under 50 seats due to their scope clause. They have a great international network but are hamstrung by the amount of 50 seaters they have to operate. That's how we ended up with the CRJ-550 in the first place. They had a bunch of CR7's they couldn't operate so they converted them.

Yeah the CRJ-550 is a goofy, niche plane. It's a CRJ-700 with majority premium/first class seats. It could only exist with UAL's pilot contracts, and in regional markets with a lot of United frequent fliers.

I've never actually flown on one. I do want to see one but I'm not going out of my way to try it.

You see them a lot out of ORD. I know they went on the XNA route as one of the first to fly since there was all that Wal-Mart premium traffic.

That and KIAH is not well loved.

I heard about this. They still use that little frakenplane?

They have a massive fleet of them now.

Go Jet is operating 67 of them with 7 more orders on the way

If the perimeter rule stays, the flight will probably stay. It's only once daily out and back, right?

They had direct flights to Denver, Charlotte, Memphis and a few others as well. I used to fly out of there a lot for work. I don't really fly that much anymore.

Yep. If the perimeter rule stays in place I could see enough traffic on it, especially given the timing allows for a full day of work in DC.

If the perimeter rule goes, or becomes relaxed, which I think is likely. This could be on the chopping block.

Memphis was de-hubbed once Delta bought Northwest. MEM lost a lot of non-stops, including to BTR. That airport had to scale back in a huge way, and it's kind of sad to see. This is what it used to look like daily:

It's basically FedEx's superhub that happens to have a regional airport mid field now. It's not a busy passenger airport anymore, and they have closed at least 2 concourses and demolished parts of what they have.

At least they renovated most of B. And they've been seeing Southwest Airlines flights for about 7-8 years now.
