I wish it is was still a great field. Shame to see something like that go down hill so fast.

BTR could absolutely support an affiliated AA team with a 7500 seat stadium somewhere in or near downtown.

Serious question: Is there any way Alex Box could be used for this team? I don’t know what schedule this league plays on, but we’ve got our own goddamn Wrigley Field just south of town. Shame it can’t be used instead of that shithole at Goldsby.

Redbirds are a AAA team. This BR team is a College league. Not the same.

The Box is used during the summer for a combination of prospect camps, tournament team play, and LSU baseball camps. They probably make more money renting out the field to these organizations than they would renting out to this league.

Also there would be too many scheduling conflicts and the field would probably be over used. I doubt LSU officials would take on anything like this because it would be a headache.

No way LSU allows them to use their field. First, rent would be way too high. This team will do goo to average 100 fans per game. BR had a collegiate LEAGUE for several summers until 2 years ago. PLayed at Goldsby and I would bet there were never over 100 paid fans for a game.

That said, the best thing Goldsby has going for it is the field itself. Apparently BRCC (who also uses it) has put some money into it. I've seen it take a good hour plus down pour and be playable within about 90 minutes. (The previous is based on my last experience out there about 2 years ago. Things may have changed since.)

This team would do better renting one of the nicer HS fields in the area. Maybe even rotate the field they rent. They'd maybe even gain some attendance with a little promotion during HS and Metro games.
